Maker of OxyContin drug negotiating settlement of over 2000 lawsuits for $12 billion

Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family who controlled the company agreed to devote its profits toward addressing the massive and explosive opioid crisis that has wreaked havoc across the country, including residents right here at home throughout Central Illinois.  The agreement calls for the removal of the Sackler family from ownership and includes payment of $3 billion of their own money toward the settlement.  The agreement calls for a total $10 billion to $12 billion nationwide settlement that would resolve more than 2,000 lawsuits brought against the maker of OxyContin by state and local governments.  One of the most promising portions of the settlement includes Purdue Pharma supplying its addiction treatment drugs free to the public.

The personal injury attorneys at Patel Law, P.C. are very concerned, as is the rest of the nation, about the over prescription of such narcotics resulting in addiction.  We are hopeful that such legal action against other contributors of similar highly addictive drugs will force changes among big pharmaceutical companies such as Purdue Pharma.
